Bronze Horse Sculpture by Siri Hollander
Siri Hollander’s work is widely collected both nationally and internationally. Her sculptural media combines steel, recycled metal and cement, creating her trademarked texture–which, when cast in bronze, brings her sculptures to life. She has become a master of three-dimensional images of horses, greatly influenced by the emotional expressiveness in the sculptures of modern masters. Largely self-taught, Hollander constructs the sculptures with no sketches or maquettes, working directly with her sculptural materials to combine realism and abstraction, emphasizing the rough essence of the subject.

St. Martin de Porres,
19thCentury Hand-Carved Wooden Santo

Juan Martin de Porres Velázquez (December 9, 1579 – November 3, 1639) was a lay brother of the Dominican Order who was beatified in 1837 by Pope Gregory XVI and canonized in 1962 by Pope John XXII. He is the patron saint of mixed-race people, barbers, innkeepers, public health workers, and all those seeking racial harmony. He was noted for his work on behalf of the poor and infirm, establishing an orphanage and a children’s hospital. Among the many miracles attributed to him were those of levitation, bilocation, miraculous knowledge, instantaneous cures, and an ability to communicate with animals.St. Martin was the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed slave of African or possibly Native American descent. Because the law forbade people of African or Indian parentage from becoming part of religious orders, he asked the Dominicans to accept him as a volunteer servant. After eight years of barbering, healing and performing menial tasks, he was accepted into the Third Oder of St. Dominic by a prior who disregarded the race laws.
