"Woman and Bird in Torment" by Joan Joan Miró

Joan Miró's original lithograph "Woman and Bird in Torment," Catalogue reference: Mourlot 510," was executed for Derriere le Miroir (DLM) in 1967. DLM was an art magazine published between 1946 and 1982 by the French publisher and gallery owner Aime Maeght in Paris. Beloved for his fantastical artworks filled with swirling, abstract forms, floating body parts, and otherworldly creatures, Miró's work earned international acclaim, and has been interpreted as Surrealism … a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. Not only did Miró take a distinct approach to creation, he focused on a number of mediums and forms during his career. This has made Joan Miró one of the most celebrated Spanish artists, and one who has created a unique style which many followed years after his death in 1983. This original Large Edition Lithograph is in excellent condition, framed, and matted.

"Lute Player" by James Jensen
Don't miss this opportunity to add this fantastic mixed-media piece, currently featured on the cover of The Symphony's 34th Season Program Book, to your art collection!! Raised in Fort Collins, Colorado, Jensen's creativity originally expressed itself in quite a different vein, the piano. Jensen entered the University of Colorado with specific intent of becoming a concert pianist, always knowing his interests were in both music and art. While technically brilliant, Jensen's true dream of composing music eluded him. When he realized his aptitude for painting and drawing, he began to spend increasing amounts of time in the studio instead of at the keyboard. When viewing Jensen's still life pastels, the influence of the Old World masters is unmistakable. But there is an individuality in his work, a vibrancy that comes from the artist himself.
"Open Heart"
For Leshek Zavistovski, creating is healing. After being diagnosed with lymphoma a number of years ago, he remembered hearing frightening stories about poor survival rates. But he said to himself and those around him, “No way — I’m going to fight this.” He immediately set to work and remarkably, completed the first half of the sculpture [titled “Hope” which now completed, stands at the entrance to the UNM Cancer Center] during his course of chemotherapy. Art, Zavistovski believes, offers a way out of one’s self and out of one’s disease. “When you look at a work of art, or listen to music, the chemistry of the brain acts in a positive way, and the positive inspiration helps with healing.”Leshek continues, “To celebrate my recovery from the cancer I created ‘Open Heart.’ There are several different versions that are owned by Santa Fe collectors.”

"Guacamole"
Someone once asked who had given me permission to paint the way I do. I thought that was a wonderful question because in it was the implication that the work was somehow outside of some set of rules to which a painter had to comply. Painting is not a matter of rules, rather it is an arena of freedom and creative liberty where no permission is required -that is, if one paints. -Melinda Hall

Auctioneer Paul Margetson has had a distinguished career in hotel management which spans more than four decades and has taken him to all corners of the globe, from Sardinia, Sri Lanka and South Africa to South America, the Caribbean and the United States. He and his family arrived in Santa Fe in 1986, when he took over as General Manager of the Eldorado Hotel. Paul has spent the past twenty years as Hotel Santa Fe’s General Manager and Managing General Partner, and more recently also as Managing Partner of Las Palomas Inn.

Like the legendary Robin Hood, Paul was raised in Nottingham, England, which may have prepared him for his most visible role in the community—that of skilled charity auctioneer, effectively “robbing from the rich to give to the poor.” Just as Robin Hood was a master with his bow, Paul is adept at hitting fundraising targets, raising millions of dollars over the past twenty years for numerous causes, including SWAIA, IAIA, the Children’s Museum, The Santa Fe Opera, Acequia Madre Elementary School, Santa Fe Prep School, Abiquiu Boys and Girls Club, and the Adaptive Ski Program.
