We are so excited about our upcoming gala California Dreamin’ II that we thought you should have a sneak peek at what is in store for you! Without giving away all of the mystery, we do want to share just a few of the rare and amazing items up for bid this year! And don’t forget … all proceeds help us succeed in our mission to bring great music to Santa Fe!
Auctioneer Paul Margetson has had a distinguished career in hotel management which spans more than four decades and has taken him to all corners of the globe, from Sardinia, Sri Lanka and South Africa to South America, the Caribbean and the United States. He and his family arrived in Santa Fe in 1986, when he took over as General Manager of the Eldorado Hotel. During that eight-year tenure, he had the opportunity to join forces with the Picuris Pueblo and other local investors to create the Hotel Santa Fe, The Hacienda & Spa and imbue it with the traditions of Native American culture. Paul has spent the past twenty years as Hotel Santa Fe’s General Manager and Managing General Partner, and more recently also as Managing Partner of Las Palomas Inn.
Like the legendary Robin Hood, Paul was raised in Nottingham, England, which may have prepared him for his most visible role in the community—that of skilled charity auctioneer, effectively “robbing from the rich to give to the poor.” Just as Robin Hood was a master with his bow, Paul is adept at hitting fundraising targets, raising millions of dollars over the past twenty years for numerous causes, including SWAIA, IAIA, the Children’s Museum, The Santa Fe Opera, Acequia Madre Elementary School, Santa Fe Prep School, Abiquiu Boys and Girls Club, and the Adaptive Ski Program. Paul has led the annual auction for The Santa Fe Symphony for many years. Named by the New Mexican in 1996 as one of “Ten Who Made a Difference,” Paul’s tireless dedication has helped countless people and has been an inspiration to all.
