Nathan Ukens, born and raised in Tulsa, OK, is currently Principal Horn of The Santa Fe Symphony and Second Horn in the New Mexico Philharmonic. Nathan began his musical studies at the age of six on piano and eventually landed on the horn. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2010 with a Master of Music degree, where he studied with Gregory Hustis, Principal Horn of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma State University in 2008 under the instruction of Lanette Lopez Compton, Fourth Horn of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra.
Nathan has performed with many other orchestras including at the Music in the Mountains Classical Music Festival, where he is currently Second Horn; Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, where he was Fourth Horn; Tulsa Symphony Orchestra; Dallas Wind Symphony; and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Nathan can frequently be heard performing in the local Albuquerque chamber music series, Chatter. In his free time, Nathan spends his afternoons hitting tennis balls for his two 35-mile-per-hour couch potatoes (whippets) Lorelei and Bentley.
