Byron Herrington has lived in Albuquerque since 1981, but was born and raised in the dusty flatlands near Lubbock, Texas. He attended schools in Port Isabel, Texas, and Ada, Oklahoma.
After a trombone performance degree at the University of Oklahoma, where he studied the trombone with Dr. Irvin Wagner, Byron won a position with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra (previously the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra), where he performed—and occasionally conducted—for thirty years.
Byron is a founding member of the New Mexico Philharmonic, as trombonist and conductor of youth, neighborhood, and pops concerts. He has been Principal Trombone with The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus since 2002.
