piano opportunities
The Jazz Project
We have limited spots for piano players in several of our ensembles! Please see the following options, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have, or sign up for an audition spot to play for us and discuss what might be the best fit for you!
Symphonies
Our two large symphony orchestras often play pieces that have piano parts! We’re looking for one advanced piano player to play for both ensembles (Youth Philharmonic, and Youth Symphony). Not every piece will have a piano part, so you won’t be overwhelmed with too much music! This is what we’ve done with advanced harp players, and it’s worked well. Learn more about The Orchestra Project.
Chamber
Our chamber music ensembles currently have an opening for at least one pianist, and we are open to creating additional piano trios if there is sufficient interest. The audition process is the same as for symphony, and you’re welcome to audition for both concurrently with the same audition. Learn more about The Chamber Project.
Accompanist Internships
We often have older high school students assist in our younger ensembles (Running Start Beginning Orchestra, Prelude String Orchestra, and Intermezzo String Orchestra). Learn more about The Orchestra Project. These groups tend to play pieces that have piano parts that are written with the assumption that a teacher or a more advanced student is the one playing.
As this role functions more as an assistant and not a student, this does not require tuition to be paid. If selected to work with a given ensemble, it is a volunteer position for the first semester. After a successful first semester, it may become a paid position, unless you find it to better serve you in terms of volunteer hours for school, church, etc.
