Our afterschool ensembles offer opportunities for musical development, achievement, and enjoyment for children in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

*Subject to change.  Individual ensembles and ensemble directors may deviate slightly from this schedule per their discretion.  Families will be notified in advance of any changes or cancellations.

Registration

All registrations require a $35 registration fee per student, per program.  

Students who sign up for more than one program will receive a 30% discount on their second registration. 

Families enrolling multiple children will receive a 10% discount for each additional sibling after the first registration.

Tuition

All tuition fees listed below are for the 2026-2027 school year and cover Fall and Spring semester participation.

All families are encouraged to fill out a financial aid application if tuition and fee costs are prohibitive to participation.  We believe all students should have access to high-quality music education! If you have any questions, please reach out to Grace Davis at gdavis@santafesymphony.org.

ORCHESTRA

Elementary Violin I

Learn the violin for the first time in a friendly and fast-paced environment!  

  • Mondays from 4:30-5:15 PM
  • Classes held at Carlos Gilbert Elementary
  • Student Age – Kindergarten-3rd grade

  • Audition required – No
  • Instrument Rentals – provided through our office, based on availability

Elementary Violin II

Continue learning the violin while building on the skills you have already learned!

  • Tuesdays from 3:45-4:30 PM
  • Classes held at Carlos Gilbert Elementary
  • Student Age – 1st-3rd grade
  • Experience needed – at least 1 semester
  • Audition required – No
  • Instrument Rentals – provided through our office, based on availability

Elementary Violin Ensemble

An ensemble for beginner violin students who can master concepts quickly, practice regularly at home, and can maintain learning at a fast pace.  A student well-suited for this class will have completed one year of the Symphony’s Elementary Violin program and/or received teacher recommendation to register for this level. 

  • Tuesdays from 4:30-5:15 PM
  • Classes held at Carlos Gilbert Elementary
  • Student Age – 1st-3rd grade
  • Experience needed – yes, students should be able to play comfortably with left-hand fingers
  • Audition required – No;  teacher approval required
  • Tuition – $550


Running Start Beginning Orchestra

An ensemble for older elementary and middle school students who want to learn the violin, viola, cello, or bass for the first time!  Students with some Beginner experience will also be well-suited to this class.

  • Thursdays from 5:30-6:45 PM
  • Classes held at Carlos Gilbert Elementary
  • Student Age – 4th-8th grade
  • Experience needed – None;  also appropriate for students with Beginner-level experience
  • Audition required – No
  • Instrument Rentals – provided through our office, based on availability
  • Tuition – $525


Prelude String Orchestra

An ensemble for older elementary and middle school students who play violin, viola, cello, and bass.  It is ideal for students who are demonstrating correct technique and note-reading skills and are able to practice music independently at home. 

  • Tuesdays from 5:30-7 PM
  • Classes held at Carlos Gilbert Elementary
  • Student Age – 4th grade and up
  • Experience needed – At least 1-3 years playing their instrument
  • Audition required;  students younger than 4th grade may audition if they have 1-3 years of experience
  • Tuition – $650


Intermezzo String Orchestra

An ensemble for older elementary and middle school students who play violin, viola, cello, and bass.  It is ideal for students who are very comfortable and experienced playing with an orchestra, sightreading level-appropriate music, and practicing music independently at home. 

  • Student Age – 5th grade and up
  • Experience needed – at least 3-4 years playing their instrument
  • Audition required – yes;  students younger than 5th grade may audition if they have 3-4 years of experience
  • Tuition – $650


Youth Philharmonic

An ensemble for middle and high school students who play orchestral instruments in winds, brass, percussion, and strings.  It is ideal for students who are very comfortable and experienced playing with an orchestra, sightreading level-appropriate music, and practicing music independently at home. 

  • Student Age – 6th grade and up
  • Experience needed – at least 3-4 years playing their instrument
  • Audition required – yes;  students younger than 6th grade may audition if they have 3-4 years of experience
  • Tuition includes all costs of annual ensemble retreat in NM, always a student favorite!
  • Tuition – $780


Youth Symphony Orchestra

An ensemble for high school students who play orchestral instruments in winds, brass, percussion, and strings.  It is ideal for students who are very comfortable and experienced playing with an orchestra, sightreading level-appropriate music, and practicing music independently at home.  Students in this ensemble are expected to perform at a high level and participate successfully in exceptional opportunities, including performing with professional musicians from The Santa Fe Symphony. 

  • Student Age – 9th grade and up
  • Experience needed – at least 3-4 years playing their instrument
  • Audition required – yes;  students younger than 6th grade may audition if they have 3-4 years of experience
  • Tuition includes all costs of annual ensemble retreat in NM, always a student favorite!
  • Tuition – $800

JAZZ

Jazz Project | Santa Fe

Ensembles focused on learning and developing the skills to play jazz in a small- or large-group setting. 

  • Combo rehearsal time/day to be determined after audition
  • Classes held at school sites in Santa Fe
  • Student Age – 5th-12th grade
  • Experience needed – At least 2-3 years playing their instrument or singing
  • Audition required – yes
  • Tuition – $650

MARIACHI

Beginner Mariachi

A beginner ensemble for students with prior experience playing an instrument who want to learn to play mariachi!   

  • Thursdays from 4:15-5:15 PM
  • Classes held at Wood Gormley Elementary
  • Student Age – 3rd grade and up
  • Experience needed – 1 year of experience playing their instrument
  • Audition required – no
  • Tuition – $550


Mariachi Citlali

An intermediate mariachi ensemble for students who have prior experience playing an instrument and/or mariachi.  

  • Thursdays from 4:45-6 PM
  • Classes held at Wood Gormley Elementary
  • Student Age – 3rd grade and up
  • Experience needed – 2 years of experience playing their instrument or 1 year of mariachi experience
  • Audition required – yes
  • Tuition – $650


Mariachi Estrella

An advanced mariachi ensemble for students who have extensive experience playing their instrument and/or mariachi, with numerous opportunities to perform at community events and attend mariachi conferences and competitions.  

  • Thursdays from 6-7:30 PM
  • Classes held at Wood Gormley Elementary
  • Student Age – 9th grade and up;  exceptions made for younger students with extensive mariachi experience
  • Experience needed – 3 years of experience playing their instrument or 2 years of mariachi experience
  • Audition required – yes
  • Tuition – $800

CHAMBER MUSIC

Intermediate Chamber Music | Santa Fe

An ensemble of 2-5 players who learn to play music in a small group, with no conductor.  This intermediate-level ensemble would be ideal for a student who has minimal chamber music experience.   

  • Ensemble rehearsal time/day to be determined after audition
  • Classes held in Santa Fe, location TBD
  • Student Age – 6th-12th grade
  • Experience needed – 2-3 years playing their instrument
  • Audition required – Yes
  • Placement is contingent on the availability of a level-appropriate group
  • Tuition – $650


Advanced Chamber Music | Santa Fe

An ensemble of 2-5 players who learn to play music in a small group, with no conductor.  This advanced ensemble would be ideal for a student who has previous experience studying chamber music, and this ensemble will be given numerous community performance opportunities. 

  • Ensemble rehearsal time/day to be determined after audition
  • Classes held in Santa Fe, location TBD
  • Student Age – 9th-12th grade
  • Experience needed – 3-4 years playing their instrument
  • Audition required – Yes

A playful, nurturing class where babies and their caregivers explore music through songs, movement, and sensory activities that support early development and bonding.

Kindermusik II

An interactive class where toddlers explore music through singing, movement, instruments, and play while building early language, motor, and social skills.

  • Fridays from 10-11 AM
  • 16 weeks per semester
  • Classes held at Pajarito Music, Los Alamos
  • Student Age – Toddlers (age 1-3)
  • Tuition – $640
