Merger
Frequently Asked Questions.
The Merger Overview
The Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association (SFYSA) has become part of the larger Santa Fe Symphony organization. SFYSA has retained its programs, staff, budget, and support while continuing to provide outstanding music education for all. The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus has continued with its existing name, programs, staff, and musicians, maintaining world-class performances at the Lensic and other venues across Santa Fe.
Continuation and Expansion of Programs
The Symphony will sustain its existing music education opportunities, including Cathedral Community Concerts, Discovery Concerts, Mentorship programs, and Pueblo Chamber Concerts. SFYSA programs and teachers remain intact, allowing continuity for current students and supporters. The plan includes expansion of offerings in the future, enhancing the overall educational reach.
Creation of a New Department
The SFYSA comes under the umbrella of The Santa Fe Symphony, forming a new department focused on Education and Community Engagement. The Youth Symphony Board integrates into the Community & Education Committee of The Symphony, which oversees educational programming and budgeting. Additionally, two members from the SFYSA Board will join The Santa Fe Symphony Board of Directors to represent the former SFYSA.
Shared Operations and Location
The SFYSA staff and teachers integrate with The Symphony team, sharing office space at The Symphony’s current location: 301 Griffin Street (entrance on Catron), in the Enterprise Bank & Trust Building. The move is scheduled for summer 2024, with an exact date to be determined.
Funding and Community Support
Continued financial support is essential for the success of SFYSA, The Symphony, and associated music education programs. Starting July 1, when the merger is finalized, donors can support SFYSA staff, teachers, and programs through gifts to The Symphony, designated specifically for music education or particular programs. This support ensures that over 300 students and 5,000+ Santa Feans receive free programming each year.
Continuity for Students and Families
Students will continue their current classes and lessons through the end of this semester without changes. Enrollment for the 2024-2025 academic year may bring slight adjustments in the registration process and updates to the website’s appearance, but the same dedicated staff and teachers will remain available to assist families and teach students.
Leadership and Board Approvals
Both the SFYSA and Santa Fe Symphony boards have unanimously approved this merger, recognizing it as a forward-thinking opportunity for both organizations. The SFYSA Board’s participation in The Symphony’s larger Board of Directors solidifies a collaborative future committed to enhancing music education and community engagement.
