Community Education Program
Music Matters.
Last season, The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus expanded its community and education programs to send its Chamber Ensembles on tour and take great music beyond the Kids Classical Concerts at Santa Fe Public Schools, and reach to Pueblo and other Northern New Mexico communities, presenting hour-long education concerts for FREE!
We kicked off our Pueblo Concert series in 2022 with our friends at Jemez Pueblo and can’t wait to return! The concert included a Symphony String Quartet performing a free classical music performance with Q&A for an audience of all ages—from children to seniors.
To follow, The Symphony String Quartet performed a FREE family performance at the San Ildefonso Pueblo Senior Center in 2023, and the community brought their friends and family members for a wonderful afternoon of music. The event also included a Q & A with the musicians following the performance.
The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus seeks community partners in New Mexico’s Northern Pueblos
We have a long history of presenting small ensemble performances tailored to audiences of varying ages and offered free of charge as our gift to the community. We are currently expanding the scope of our community programming, and we seek to develop partnerships with interested Pueblo communities. What we offer:
A free classical music performance of one hour or less, by 4 professional symphony musicians. Artists will discuss key points of the music with the audience and take questions from audience members if desired. Programming is friendly to audience members of all ages, including children and seniors.
- Youth in communities of all cultures who experience music education and live performances periodically have reported a sense of self-betterment, including those Indigenous peoples and communities in New Mexico.
- Approximately 33% of concert attendees at outreach concerts are socially disadvantaged
