Discovery Concerts

Community Education Program

Music Matters.

We introduce fifth graders to the wonder of symphonic music through our annual Discovery Concerts!

The Santa Fe Symphony’s music education programs channel the talents of our orchestra, chorus members, and contributing music scholars into experiential learning opportunities for young and old. The Symphony’s annual Discovery Concerts feature local storytellers and the entire Symphony Orchestra, thrilling more than 1,500 fourth-grade students from Santa Fe County, and in 2022 even more students were reached at Capital High School.

Students travel by bus from Santa Fe, Pojoaque, Española, and Pueblo schools to the Lensic for a full concert featuring bilingual storyteller Joe Hayes.

Each year approximately 3,600 youth in Santa Fe and surrounding areas are served through its music education programs, in partnership with Santa Fe Public Schools, to bring much needed music education to students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience classical music.

  • SFS serves over 1200 5th grade students during the Discovery Concert
  • SFS sends out educational material for students to learn about outside the
    concert setting
  • 82% of students learned something new at the concert
  • Teachers found the majority of their students were engaged throughout the
    concert
