Junior Division

First-Place Winner performs at The Lensic with The Symphony for its Annual Discovery Concerts—rehearsal one week prior to performance.

December 10, 2023
Senior Division
First-Place Winner performs at The Lensic with The Symphony for the “Sounds of the Season” holiday pops concert, conducted by Maestro Guillermo Figuero—rehearsal one week prior to performance.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All applicants must be residents of New Mexico.
  • Applicants should play an orchestral instrument (No voice. No piano.) If you have any questions, please email competition@santafesymphony.org.
  • Applicants must be available to participate in the in-person finals round, as well as the rehearsal and performance listed above for their division.
  • Applicants must provide their own accompanist for virtual and in-person rounds, if possible. If you are unable to provide an accompanist, please still record your audition without and submit your application!
  • Audition videos should be between 5 to 7 minutes in length uploaded to YouTube .
  • Application fee of $20 due at the time of application. If you are unable to pay, we still ask that you submit your application asap.
  • Applicants in need of assistance with application fees or other logistical concerns please email competition@santafesymphony.org.

Junior Division

Open to instrumentalists aged 14 to 18 who are a New Mexico resident or attending a New Mexico high school. Junior Division applicants should choose one (1) movement of a classical-era concerto (Mozart, Haydn, or similar).

Transcriptions for alternate instruments are allowed.

  • All in-person finalists will receive a recording of their audition.
  • First-place winners in each division will receive a recording of their performance with The Santa Fe Symphony.

APPLICATION FEE $20

We recognize the potential financial and logistical difficulty in applying to a competition of this nature. Students needing assistance are encouraged to contact us at 505.983.3530. It is our intention to make this competition as accessible as possible to students throughout the state of New Mexico.

Senior Division

Open to instrumentalists aged 18 to 22 who are a New Mexico resident or attending a New Mexico school. Senior Division applicants should choose one (1) movement of a concerto from the standard repertoire for their instrument. The Santa Fe Symphony reserves the right to disqualify repertoire which is inaccessible in size, style, or rental/loan availability.

  • All in-person finalists will receive a recording of their audition.
  • First-place winners in each division will receive a recording of their performance with The Santa Fe Symphony.
