Special Engagement
The Santa Fe Symphony and Performance Santa Fe proudly present the Martha Graham Dance Company in the 75th Anniversary of Appalachian Spring. The Martha Graham Dance Company has been recognized as a primal artistic force since 1926. Thirty years after Graham’s ashes were ceremoniously scattered at El Santuario de Chimayó, the company she built into the world’s finest example of modern dance makes its long-awaited return to Santa Fe.
To celebrate the anniversary of Aaron Copland’s most famous ballet, members of The Santa Fe Symphony will play the original 13-piece chamber orchestration to accompany dancers from the Martha Graham Dance Company for this brilliant work! The program also includes Graham’s Diversion of Angels, set to a romantic score by Norman Dello Joio and taking its themes from the infinite aspects of love; Immediate Tragedy, created in 1937 in response to the Spanish Civil War; and a new work by choreographer Andrea Miller set to a soundscape by William Epstein.
