Joshua Narlesky, Tenor

A chemical engineer by day and a chorister by night, tenor Joshua Narlesky moved to Santa Fe in 2002 after accepting a position at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Joshua was immediately drawn to Santa Fe—with the city’s history, food scene, and many outdoor recreation options being key factors in his decision to relocate here.

He got his start in music singing in junior and senior high school choruses in his hometown of Allentown, PA, then later sang at the collegiate level at NM Tech, where he sang in both the Chamber Choir and the Concert Chorus from 1997-2001, and at Colorado State University where he performed with the University Singers during the 2001-2002 school year—the highlight of which was singing the national anthem for a televised football game once CSU resumed its football season after September 11. Since moving to New Mexico, Joshua has sung in church choirs and served as a cantor in various parishes in and around Santa Fe.

Joshua loves New Mexico’s outdoor scene. From skiing in the winter, to hiking and biking in the mountains all summer, or just relaxing on his paddleboard in the middle of a lake, he savors his time exploring the state. He also enjoys the diversity of cultures residing here and especially enjoys sampling regional dishes and experiencing the art and music found in the area.

Musically, he continues to be “amazed” by the talent of his fellow members of the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus. “It’s such a privilege to have the opportunity to sing with this group.” While confessing that Monteverdi is his favorite composer and that Renaissance and Baroque music is his favorite type of music to perform, Joshua enjoys singing new and challenging works for vocalists—but what he’s looking forward to singing most this season is Handel’s Messiah.
