Soprano Joanna Armstrong moved to New Mexico in 2021 from her hometown of Buena Vista, VA. She is currently employed with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, where she serves as their Marketing and Communications Manager. She previously worked as an adjunct voice professor at Southern Virginia University and sang as an apprentice artist with Opera Roanoke. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Southern Virginia University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University. Previous roles include the title role in Handel’s Theodora, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, Nella and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, and Lily in The Secret Garden. As a concert soloist, she has performed in Handel’s Messiah, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music and Rob Gardner’s Lamb of God.
