Star York’s “Rock Art Symphony” is a unique piece of art from The Symphony’s 2012 Painted Violins fundraiser. This hand-painted violin was inspired by the images painted on rock walls in ancient caves in France and Spain, dating back to about 32,000 years ago. Mostly the images are of the wild life (bison, lions, mammoths, deer), but the horses depicted are particularly elegant in style, and race across the rock panels in herds that flow rhythmically over the rough cave walls.
