Robert Hoffman, Tenor

Financial advisor Robert Hoffman moved to New Mexico in 2004 in search of a more balanced life. After working in New York City and Washington DC, he found the backpacking, golf, and music scene he’d been seeking right here in Santa Fe. He also found the career change he’d been after, shifting his focus from investment banking to private wealth management. The move to New Mexico also gave him the opportunity to give back, and pay-it-forward, through a position as an Associate Priest with the Catholic Apostolic Church of Antioch at Santa Fe, where he says Mass on Zoom for a small, independent faith community.

Robert’s singing career began when he was asked to participate in his grade school glee club. Since then, he’s performed as a tenor, baritone, and bass in groups across the nation, including The Central City Chorus in Manhattan, one of New York City’s most prestigious choruses for avocational singers. Closer to home, Robert’s performed in choirs at the Church of Holy Faith and St. Bede’s Episcopal Church Choir, Santa Fe Community Orchestra and Choir, and The Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus.

His performances in New Mexico have been among the musical highlights of Robert’s life. In 2008, he took part in a concert featuring Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at the Santa Fe Opera with the Santa Fe Community Orchestra and Chorus. Being able to sing that iconic work again at the Lensic with The Santa Fe Symphony Chorus a year or two later only reinforced his appreciation for Beethoven, great choral music, and for the 9th Symphony’s final movement, in particular. Even so, he’s quick to remind us that one very special performance of Les Misérables falls into that same category. Watching the original cast on Broadway in 1987, Robert reports that he continues to be inspired by the show he saw nearly 40 years ago, stating “it was perhaps the most electric performance I have ever seen.”

Robert has found in Santa Fe everything he was looking for—a balanced life with ample time to devote to his clients and yet still have time to enjoy golf, backpacking, and a fabulous opera company just minutes away from both his home and office. But it’s his time with The Santa Fe Symphony Chorus that he treasures most. “I feel privileged to be singing with the Chorus. Singing great music with such strong talents and fantastic leadership is a joy that leads to transcendent musical experiences—for us as performers, and for our audiences, as well.”
